Neonatal screening for sickle cell disease in the DRC

Dr. Robert Kitenge works at the Monkole Hospital Center in Kinshasa. His field of study is Sickle Cell Disease. He is the principal investigator in a project led by the Network for the Study of Sickle Cell Disease in Central Africa (REDAC) in partnership with his home institution. His contribution consisted of the popularization of the rapid diagnostic test for sickle cell disease. He also spoke of new notions of the pathophysiology of sickle cell disease. Its presence in Kisangani has allowed the integration of Kisangani’s Cinquantenaire Hospital into the national network working for the neonatal screening of sickle cell disease in the DRC
